Community Mediation Unit’s collaboration with MHA on the Community Engagement Programme

On 17 September 2007, the Community Mediation Unit (CMU) was invited to conduct a briefing on Basic Mediation Skills for the second run of the Community Engagement Programme (CEP). The CEP was organized by the Community Engagement Directorate, Ministry of Home Affairs and the Home Team Academy to brief and train a group of civil servants working in the CEP cluster lead agencies which include the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Manpower, People’s Association, Singapore Civil Defence Force and the Singapore Police Force.

As the focus for the second CEP was on equipping the participants with ‘Building Skills’, the briefing conducted by CMU Manager, Mr Casen Ng focused on practical aspects of mediation. The briefing provided participants with knowledge about alternative dispute resolution as well as insight to mediation as a useful life-skill. A total of about 25 participants attended the training.
